Weddings are a huge business. We know that. Every stately home, hotel or local pub seems to do a ferociously expensive “wedding package” these days and it can be difficult to create those personal touches from what might be on offer.

So we want to give an almighty salute to those that make it possible to create a truly unique wedding day. To those designers who know that your wedding day should be exactly that; “YOUR” wedding day. You don’t need to go for sugared almonds on your wedding table when you could have small, personalised gifts for your guests like these gorgeous fused glass magnets from Red Brick Glass.

And why stick to basic place names when you could add a touch of vintage style to your table settings.

Yes, it takes time to source those special touches for your wedding, but speaking from experience, that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s a wonderful opportunity to really put your stamp on the day, to give your guests a day to remember, as well as yourselves of course. And you don’t have to make your entire day “handmade”. There are plenty of designers making bespoke wedding invitations and that alone can be a great way to set your wedding apart from the rest. ArcadiaAmelia Lane Paper, and Gooseberry Moon would be a good place to start.

Or maybe you’d like to save the handmade touches for you and your fella? Why stick to a floral bouquet when you can can have a bouquet of vintage button gorgeousness?

Or maybe dare to top off that morning suit with a beautifully hand crafted top hat from InnerSpiral?

You could of course get creative and make your own wedding items. I asked my friends and family to keep used jam jars for me and then spent my evenings decorating them with vintage ribbon, buttons and lace creating beautiful lanterns that we hung from every tree around the garden. They looked truly stunning, even if I do say so myself……

There are plenty of How To’s on the internet. Make Your Own Weddings & the Craftzine wedding archive are good places to start. The BBC also have a great Make You Own Wedding Cake feature if you’re feeling really brave!

The handmade wedding theme on Folksy makes it very easy to find the perfect items for your special day, from gartar’s to guest books, Bridal brooches to Bridesmaid dresses you’ll find we’ve pretty much got it all – it’s a great source of inspiration for wedding planners as well.

So hooray for the designers who realise that each wedding should be as special, unique and memorable as the couple getting married. And thank you for making it possible to have our very own handmade wedding. We salute you.
